Can You Lose Weight While Sleeping?

In the society we live in, most us are obsessed with our appearance. The ideal body made us go through diets, workouts and repeat. If you are like me, you probably don’t enjoy working out and have the weakest willpower with food. I always wondered, does sleep affect your weight lost journey? Today we will dive into the question we all asked at least one time in our lifetime.

Less Time Sleeping, More Time Eating.

Have you ever pulled an all-nighter for a project, a book that you stubbornly decided to finish in one night? Remember how you felt over the hours you were supposed to sleep. Hungry, right? Apparently, when tired and privated of sleep, your brain is kind of drunk, prone to bad decisions and fast-food cravings.

A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionfound that when people were starved of sleep, late-night snacking increased, and they were more likely to choose high-carb snacks. In another study done at the University of Chicago, sleep-deprived participants chose snacks with twice as much fat as those who slept at least 8 hours.

A second study found that sleeping too little prompts people to eat bigger portions of all foods, increasing weight gain. And in a review of 18 studies, researchers found that a lack of sleep led to increased cravings for energy-dense, high-carbohydrate foods. So, if you were asking why you didn’t lose any pound, even if you worked out and cut out your normal eating, it is probably because you don’t sleep enough. Sleep is our brain’s meal. When you don’t give it enough, it will constantly ask for more; imagine living only on crisps. It doesn’t fill your stomach, right? That’s what sleep does to your brain, leading to weight gain.

Can You Loose Weight While Sleeping?

Now comes the million dollars question, can you loose weight while sleeping? Technically yes. Sleeping is another important factor in your life and when you have an adequate amount of sleep a night, you can lose weigh easier than when privated of it. If you sleep enough hours, you cut your calorie intake, while sleeping less increases your calorie intake and could possibly lead to obesity in some cases.

So, if you want a beach body, sleep enough, have a good workout schedule and a nutritious diet created by a doctor (don’t start diets you read online, because you don’t know how your body reacts to some of them)
