The season changed, the air became a lot crispier, and the sun sets earlier now. As September fades into October, the shirts, t-shirts and tank tops are stepping away, making way for the fuzzy socks, cozy jumpers and jeans.

Changing the season comes with the hustle of cleaning and organizing your wardrobe. If you are like me, you hate organizing and procrastinate until the last minute to make some changes in your closet. Don’t do that. Stop scrolling on Instagram and watch organized tiktoks, wanting to do that, but make excuses. This guide is for you.

Did Someone Say Purge?

The first step in organizing your closet is to… THROW EVERYTHING OUT. Yes, your bedroom floor will look like you had a tornado in your closet, but the process will lead to the greater good. Once your closet is empty, it is time to sort everything. Get two boxes. One for keeping and one for donating. We already have too much waste on this planet so donating is a better idea than throwing everything in the trash, keep an eye on the environment.

Dividers Bring Everything Close

Now that you managed to sort everything and put the box out for donation, it is time to put everything back. If you are a high maintenance lady, something that I am not, you still have quite a lot of different clothes that need their spotlight. Use dividers and organize them by categories, that will leave you with a lot of space, once everything is in its place.

Divide items by type, such as jeans, sweaters, and dresses. 

Arrange items based on height and bulkiness: Tops go on lower racks or shorter shelves, pants go on a hook rack or mid-level shelf, and long dresses and bulky coats go on higher racks and spacious shelving.

If you’re a visual organizer, subdivide items by color (in rainbow order, of course, if you’re anything like The Home Edit ladies).

Keep high-use items easy to access; tuck low-use items out of the way.

Stick accessories on walls or their own shelf.

Grow Your Shelfamily

The more shelves, the more organized your wardrobe will become. Buy new shelves and drawers for your clothes and accessories, not to mention shoes.

Vacuum Your Worries Away

Now that you are almost done with your organizing, you need to find space for the summer clothes you still have. The best option on saving up space for this type of clothes is vaccum seal. It is cheap, easy and time saving. You only need a trip to Poundland and buy some drawstring bin bags and your home vaccum, and you can start this hack. Once you have sealed them, you can now put them on the top shelf and save a lot of space.

Now that your closet is clean and organized, you need new clothes to fill in and get you ready for the colder season, so this is your call to buy new clothes.
